Well the worst of it is over now. Dennis basically just fizzled out the second it hit shore. Nothing even close to Ivan - at least that I can see. It's still not safe to walk around the streets because there are some pretty big gusts of wind every once in a while, but the storm is basically over.
Once I get to walk around the neighborhood, I'll be able to see if there was any damage (our house is fine - no damage at all). The only thing I can see right now is a tree limb in the middle of our street. Oh yeah, and our mailbox blew over. That's it. Completely unexciting. not that I'm complaining by any means. But Dennis has basically been just a big nuisance, and nothing more, for us.
Yup, about an hour ago, the power went out.
The eye hasn't even made landfall yet, and we've only seen about half of the wind speed that this thing is about to drill us with.
Fortunately, God gave man the brains to invent a generator, so we have some limited backup power. And also fortunately, our cable connection is still working.
Hopefully our cable connection will last a little while longer so that we don't have to rely on just the weather radio for updates on the storm.

p.s.: sorry if I'm annoying anyone with these updates. I'm doing them more for me than for anyone else.
Here I sit in the midst of Hurricane Dennis
It just got upgraded to a cat 4 last night, and now it's path has taken a jog northward. They think Pensacola will take a direct hit, which totally stinks for them. That's also bad news for our area, because Pensacola got the worst from Hurricane Ivan last year, which wasn't as strong as Dennis is now. And Pensacola was about 50 miles east from where the eye made landfall - the exact same distance we are from Dennis' projected landfall.
...fun stuff. Hopefully, there won't be too many tornadoes. Prayers would be helpful.
